Simone Federman has held positions as Professor of Theater at Bowdoin College, SUNY New Paltz, Rowan and Denison Universities, teaching Directing, Acting, Dramatic Literature and Performance Art. Her background and training includes directing, clowning, commedia dell’ arte, and the Viewpoints. She holds a BA from Oberlin College and an MFA from The ART Institute for Advanced Theater Training at Harvard University.
Simone has directed plays by Chekhov, Beckett, Ionesco, Lorca, Genet, Stein, Pinter, Churchill, Anouilh, Strindberg, Wertenbaker, Molière, Gozzi, Goldoni, Aristophanes, Lynda Crawford, Diana Son, Paula Vogel, David Greenspan, and Christopher Shinn at such venues as The Lynne Redgrave Theater, H.E.R.E., The Ohio Theatre, Present Theatorium, The Alchemical Theatre, Lincoln Center, The Kitchen, Creative Time/ Battery Maritime Building, Dixon Place and The Portland Stage Company. She also collaborated with Bread and Puppet Theater at the World’s Fair in Hanover, Germany and with Le Theatrographe at the Avignon Theatre in France.
